The study evaluated the maternal and neonatal outcomes in Korean women with type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Differences in glycosylated hemoglobin between type 1 and type 2 diabetes were not significant. Birth weight and rate of major congenital malformations had insignificant difference. Maternal and neonatal outcomes for women with type 1 diabetes were poorer than for women with type 2 diabetes, especially preeclampsia, LGA, macrosomia and admission to the neonatal intensive care unit.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients are at a higher risk of developing coronary heart disease (CHD). Specific multivariable risk prediction tools like Framingham risk score (FRS) and United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS) risk engine have been developed for efficient recognition of CHD risk. This study is aimed to evaluate the concurrence between FRS and UKPDS risk engine in identifying CHD risk in newly detected T2DM patients in north India. FRS identified 20.9% subjects as high-risk while UKPDS identified 21.75%. Although the two engines (threshold 20%) identified different high-risk populations, the agreement was fairly good. Defining the variables leading to discrepancies between scores will improve the assessment of CHD risk in T2DM patients.
 
Predictive Factors for Efficacy of Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 Inhibitors in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Diabetes Metab J 2015;39:342-347.
 
In this retrospective study, we showed that the predictive factors of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors for lowering the HbA1c level after 12 months in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus included a decrease in HbA1c level after 3 months of treatment, high baseline HbA1c level, low baseline body mass index, and the absence of coronary artery disease. These suggest that the most suitable candidates for treatment with DPP-4 inhibitors are diabetics who are not obese and do not have coronary artery disease. In addition, we show that the long-term efficacy of DPP-4 inhibitors can be predicted by decrements of HbA1c after 3 months of treatment.
