In this study, a substantial proportion of people with normal fasting glucose progressed to type 2 diabetes over time. This indicates that physicians should not view normal fasting glucose as a benign condition with low risk for future diabetes. This may be particularly true for Asian population, and fasting plasma glucose level alone may have limited clinical relevance in the assessment of the risk of future diabetes among these population. In addition, the value of oral glucose tolerance test should not be underestimated as a method of early detection of diabetes to provide an opportunity to prevent diabetic complications in people with normal fasting glucose.
 
Serum Levels of PCSK9 Are Associated with Coronary Angiographic Severity in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome. Diabetes Metab J. 2018 Jun;42(3):207-214.
 
Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) has emerged as a target for lipid-lowering therapy, but the predictive value of the serum level of PCSK9 for the severity of coronary disease is largely unknown. Here, we report the association of PCSK9 with the risk and severity of acute coronary syndrome. Serum PCSK9 levels were associated with proportion of patients with coronary angiography lesions and the number of affected coronary arteries. In addition, the level of PCSK9 was positively correlated with GRACE and SYNTAX scores. Therefore, this study suggested that PCSK9 is a potential biomarker of the severity of coronary artery disease.

Inhibition of serotonin synthesis protects from diet-induced obesity by increasing systemic energy expenditure. In this article, we show that pharmacological or genetic inhibition of serotonin production decreased hepatic triglyceride accumulation in diet-induced hepatic steatosis models. Short-term inhibition of serotonin synthesis prevented hepatic steatosis independently of systemic insulin sensitivity and energy expenditure. This study suggests that serotonin can directly regulate hepatic lipid metabolism.
