Carotid artery intima medial thickness (IMT), ankle–brachial index (ABI), and cardio–ankle vascular index (CAVI) are common surrogate markers of subclinical atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, which marker can most sensitively predict atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is yet unknown. We analyzed the correlations among these markers as well as their relationship with 10-year ASCVD risk. CAVI was positively correlated with both 10-year ASCVD risk and IMT. In conclusion, this study suggests CAVI as a sensitive surrogate marker of subclinical atherosclerosis in Korean diabetic patients without ASCVD.
 
Insulin Resistance and the Risk of Diabetes and Dysglycemia in Korean General Adult Population. Diabetes Metab J. 2018 Aug;42(4):296-307.
 
The optimal cut-off values for insulin resistance by homeostasis model assessment (HOMA-IR) were assessed to define diabetic or dysglycemic state in Korean adults using Korean National Health Insurance Service data. The optimal cut-off value of HOMA-IR for dysglycemia was 1.6 for both genders and was unaffected by age. Meanwhile, the cut-off values for type 2 diabetes (T2D) were 2.87 in men and 2.36 in women. Notably, the diagnostic range of HOMA-IR to discriminate T2D varied significantly according to gender and age, and the sensitivity of HOMA-IR for T2D diagnosis progressively decreased with age, especially in women.

Traditionally, obesity is understood to be caused by an imbalance in energy intake and consumption. However, many researchers have found that a variety of factors are involved in the pathophysiology of obesity. Recently, we conducted an analysis using de-identified big data of smartphone-based weight management application. We also have investigated whether there are other factors besides the previously well-known factors affecting body weight. In this study, we found that fine dust can have a significant impact on intentional efforts for human body weight control.
