Arterial Stiffness by Aerobic Exercise Is Related with Aerobic Capacity, Physical Activity Energy Expenditure, and Total Fat but not with Insulin Sensitivity in Obese Female Patients with Type 2 Diabetes. Diabetes Metab J 2014;38:439-48. |
This randomized controlled trial examined the effects of moderate aerobic exercise on arterial stiffness. Aerobic exercise group undertook a 12-week moderate exercise program for 60 min/day, 3 day/week at 3.6 to 5.2 Metabolic Equivalents. After the 12-week program, the aerobic exercise group had alleviated arterial stiffness compared with the control group. Interestingly, exercise-induced improvement in arterial stiffness was related to the improvement of aerobic capacity, physical activity energy expenditure, and total fat but not to insulin sensitivity or energy intake. Thus these findings suggest that moderate-intensity aerobic exercise improves arterial stiffness with relation to cardiorespiratory fitness as well as central obesity in type 2 diabetes. |

The Glycated Albumin to Glycated Hemoglobin Ratio Might Not Be Associated with Carotid Atherosclerosis in Patients with Type 1 Diabetes. Diabetes Metab J 2014;38:456-63. |
The ratio of glycated albumin to glycated hemoglobin (GA/A1c) is associated with carotid intima media thickness (IMT) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), but it remains elusive whether or not these correlations also apply to patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). A total of 81 T1DM patients were recruited and their IMT was measured. The patients were divided into 2 groups based on their GA/A1c. In contrast with patients with T2DM, IMT was not significantly related to GA/A1c in the subjects with T1DM. Therefore, the correlations between GA/A1c and the parameters known to be associated with atherosclerosis in T2DM patients could be manifested differently in T1DM patients. Thus the mechanism requires further elucidation. |
